Time
A Cyclen is 1 year (300 earth days)
A Relen is 1 day (20 earth hours)
A Tethlen is 10 Relens (earth Week)
A Menlen is 30 Relens (earth Month)
There are 3 Tethlens in Menlen and 30 Tethlens (or 10 Menlens) in a Cyclen
A Duran is about 2 earth hours
A Paran is about 12 earth minutes
A Liran is about 2.5 earth minutes (The smallest amount of time named)
There are 10 Durans in a Relen (5 of Day and 5 of Night)
There are 10 Parans in a Duran
There are 10 Lirans in a Paran
Crest (Day) and Cloke (Night)
The Crest is the period of daylight when the sun (called the Soln in Sgova) crests across the sky
The Cloke is the period of darkness
There are consistently 5 ‘Crest’ Durens and 5 ‘Cloke’ Durens (such is the axis of the planet…)
First Shadow is the period of twilight at dawn (about 2 Parans)
Last Shadow is the period of twilight at dusk
Tethens
There are always exactly 3 Tethens (weeks) in a Mehden (month)
Most peoploids refer them as simply… 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Menlens
The Menlens (months) have many different names as you travel across The Sgova Haven, but in most of the big cities, except perhaps the elves in Alanalor, they have standardized on the following
- 1 Windburn
- 2 Longrest
- 3 Pinkhaze
- 4 Reachwood
- 5 Skyrun
- 6 Echosea
- 7 Highvale
- 8 Coymoon
- 9 Jadestar
- 10 Fatescall
There are four seasons, each of which are approximately two and a half Menlens.
Windburn and Longrest are the coldest Menlens and Spring usually starts in mid-Pinkhaze
Echosea and Highvale are the warmest Menlens
Harvestime begins in mid Coymoon thru the rest of the Cyclen
Counts
Words used to describe numbers such as a dozen or a count or a score.
Tuehan = 10 (pronounced tu-en) as in 2 hands worth of fingers
Elhan = 100 (pronounced el-en) as in L for 50 hands worth of fingers
Distance
A Legan is approx 3 earth miles
A Sepan is approx 3 earth feet
A Felan is approx 3 earth inches
Far, Near, Close
To simplify movement, actual distances are not commonly used during combat and similar scenarios. Instead we use three general terms
Far: Far is too far for most spells or ranged attacks. A full turn most be used to move from Far to Near.
Near: Ranged weapons and spells will work from Near distances. Most characters can move from Near to Close and then attack in the same turn.
Close: Close is melee distance. Spells requiring touch must be cast from Close distance.
Area Sizes
To keep things simple, areas like rooms or clearings or pools etc are referred to a small, medium, large or expansive
Small is approx 15 feet wide or long or less
Medium is approx 15 – 30 feet
Large is approx 30 – 60 feet
Expansive is anything beyond Large
